This area was originally known as Gregg's Landing. It used to be part of the Flathead Indian Reservation, but when the land was opened up for white settlement, steamboat traffic in the area boomed. A French Canadian by the name of Telesphore J. "Jake" Demers took note of this and developed Gregg's Landing into a bigger town, renaming it Demersville after himself.
