Historical Significance of Hushpuckena
Settled in 1884 by the establishment of a saloon. Buck Burroughs started the first plantation in 1887. Around 1900 that the first railroad station was built.
Prominent People in Hushpuckena
One of Huspuckena’s legendary characters was “Old man Waits”, a man who came to Mississippi to escape trial for murder, and owned a plantation just outside the town. All strangers to the town were required to explain their business to Mr Waits, before being allowed to stay.
