Early citizens named this city for Henry and Etta Beard, important local landowners.
Historical Significance of Henryetta
Henryetta got its start when a group of railroad surveyors lost their food supplies while fording a creek. They stopped at the home of a Creek rancher for new provisions. The rancher took them on a tour of a local coal mine. Test holes drilled by the surveyors produced coal in every core. The railroad was promptly rerouted to run through the area.

Former Dallas Cowboy and three-time Super Bowl champ, Troy Aikman, also calls Henryetta his hometown.
